A Little Bit Of Information On Location....
A two Bedroom, immaculately presented holiday chalet situated in the popular holiday village of Scurlage, Gower is up for grabs. The Gower Peninsula, more than just a pretty face, it was designated as the uk’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty back in 1956, and we’re glad to say it hasn’t changed much since! Situated just a short drive from the ever-so-popular town of Swansea is a place that offers everyone something. A rich and varied environment which is breath-taking (and we’re not just saying that!) – From wild moors and limestone cliffs to golden, sandy beaches, a walkers haven or surfers paradise . Gower is a geological goldmine with inspiring landscapes – just look at Dylan Thomas’ work.
Location, Location, Location
Situated at the main junction of Rhossili and Port Eynon on the is the village of Scurlage. It was during the 14th century that Sir Herbert Scurlage, who was related by marriage to the Mansel family, built a fortified Manor House known as Scurlage Castle or 'Scorlayges Kaestel' approximately a quarter a mile away from the village. However, Scurlage Castle has not survived the ravages of time and, today, is nothing more than the site of a farm. During World War II, the village became host to an American Army camp - the forces being attracted to the region by its proximity to the beaches of Oxwich, Port Eynon and Rhossili. These were all seen as being perfect for troops to stage practice landings as they closely resembled the beaches of Normandy. Modern day Scurlage is home to a large housing estate, a sports club, a public house and a medical centre.
