Sitting deep into the Muirfield estate in Buckley, this established and fundamentally sound and well presented home offers spacious accommodation, plentiful parking, a virtually labour free garden capped off with an enormous garage and a chain free purchase.

For those without their own transport or perhaps in their advancing years, the estate has its own local bus which circulates providing a way of reaching the main road, with its main but route connecting Buckley with Mold. So far so good, now let’s get into the nitty gritty.

The broad driveway with its parking for several cars sweeps up alongside the home towards the garage, while beside this is a gravel front garden with an attractive decorative stone and gravel layout establishing the maintenance free theme. To the side of the home is a brick and glass porch offering protection from the weather to the semi glazed wooden ‘front’ door.

Entering the inner hallway we are greeted by a door to our right. This reveals the bathroom or more accurately, wet room. Here the reason for the somewhat dated décor of the home becomes apparent. The sale is being handled by Flintshire County Council, who hold enduring power of attorney over the affairs of the owner who has been moved into more supportive accommodation.

During the final months of her living here, they modified the bathroom into a full wet room which, being installed to an approved program is neat, efficient and comprehensively equipped, if a little institutionalised. However it must be said that wet rooms are becoming more and more popular and, they are undeniably practical; it’s all a matter of taste. For added practicality this one also contains a large linen cupboard providing masses of storage space.

Almost opposite here and facing the front of the home is the first of the bedrooms. This compact double room has a large picture window overlooking the front garden and something that is becoming more common in today’s bedrooms, a built in TV point. It seems we no longer sleep in these rooms, but watch endless documentaries about the problems of insomnia… The décor rather sets the tone for the rest of the home, being firmly set in the late 70s or early 80s, something anyone familiar with the re-runs of The Sweeney on Dave will recognise.

Adjacent to here and also facing the front is the lounge. This is a very pleasant room, kept bright and airy by its large picture window and featuring as a centre piece, an extremely attractive marble fireplace containing its living flame gas fire. As the home is also fully centrally heated via the baxi gas combi boiler in the kitchen, this is probably mere eye-candy and unnecessary for warming purposes, but a nice feature none the less.

Further down the hall is another large storage cupboard, perfect for all the Hoovers, coats, shoes and the general ‘stuff’ that always clutters up every home unless allocated a space to hide in.
At the end of the hall is the principal bedroom, overlooking the rear garden. This is a very large square room, easily big enough to become a lounge should you so wish, where the possible addition of a set of French doors into the garden would make for a haven of peace and one which, opening into the very private garden could be enormously appealing…..Just a thought.

Beside here is the spacious kitchen. This is where the 70s time warp raises its head again in the dated style of the units and work tops. That having been said, these were class items in their day and have evidently been fastidiously looked after so any alterations made in here are more a matter of taste than necessity. The units are laid out in an ‘L’ shape, leaving one remaining long wall housing only a small floor mounted set of two cupboards. The removal of these would cost little in the way of lost storage and provide easily enough space for a small dining table, which would in turn mitigate for the lack of a formal dining room. Sorry, i’m sounding bossy; it’s your home, do what you want…..

The back door gives access to a small glass sitting area. More porch than conservatory it nevertheless provides somewhere to relax and observe the goings on in the largely ornamental gravel rear garden. If that makes it sound too utilitarian, that is not the case as masses of colour is provided by various flowering shrubs and numerous flowering plants in decorative tubs.

A small patio area lies to one side providing somewhere to enjoy the space when better weather permits and a substantial wooden shed takes care of all the gardening tools. And finally there is the huge and quite novel garage. Huge more in height than anything else, it would accept a small commercial vehicle with ease and novel because it features doors at each end. This allows a vehicle to drive straight through, although why it would want to defeats me. I did say it was novel, if not actually useful….. Still, as a talking point it would break the ice at dinner parties and does no harm, .

All in all this is something that comes along all too rarely. An affordable bungalow with the space and the potential to become the home you want, for the price you can afford. Basically sound throughout and in perhaps Buckley’s most enviable location; these are only the start of the good news. For a small family, both primary and secondary schools are within easy walking distance, the layout of the home is open to simple modification which would give a very different character making it a versatile proposition. It is all things to all men (or women) and above all, it is well priced and that, in these days when everyone seems to want a bungalow, makes this one a bit special.
