It is a rare Post Restoration house that was built when Charles 11 was restored to the English throne in the late 17th century, many years after his father Charles 1 was beheaded by Cromwell in the English Civil War.

Charles 11 and his followers had spent many years in exile in France so on their return to England, when Charles 11 was restored to the throne, they built a few Post Restoration houses like Swallows Court that were designed in the French style. However, Swallows Court is unique because it was built using the huge pieces of Cotswold stone from the 13th century Moreton Valence Castle which was close to rear of the Church from the same period. At the rear of the church the water filled moat which surrounded the castle can still be seen.

Swallows Court contains a wealth of historic features, many of them from the former castle. These include Cotswold stone floors, oak beamed walls and ceilings, exposed stone walls, period style wooden paneling, a Tudor fireplace in the dining room, a huge Inglenook fireplace in the living room, A Jacobean staircase, twin Georgian display recesses, a large original bread oven, a large wine cellar and even a Georgian wig cupboard.

The house has six double bedrooms with two en-suites and a recently refitted family bathroom with a large bubble bath. The huge stone walls keep the rooms cool in the summer and warm in the winter but there is also a full gas central heating system installed by the present owners plus two wood burner fires.

We do charge a statutory Tenant Reference fee of £120 inc VAT per tenant. There will also be a further Inventory & Check in cost to the tenant in order to protect their deposit in the event of a dispute at the end of the tenancy.
