Seller insight:

Tucked away down a quiet road in the delightful Northamptonshire village of Stoke Albany is Number 4 Chapel Lane, a spacious and well-appointed family home that was built towards the end of the 1920s. “It’s fair to say that the house was a bit of a shambles when we initially happened upon it almost twenty years ago, so over and above everything else it was the location that sold it to us, ” says the owner. “It sits away from the main road on this lovely little lane, so it’s very peaceful and private, and the village itself is surrounded by rolling green fields so it also feels very rural. However, it’s only five miles to Market Harborough and six to Corby so everything is really accessible.”

“The house had been unloved for many years before we came here, but I could immediately see that it had bags of potential, so we set about making quite a few improvements and it’s now just lovely throughout. The décor was refreshed, we had brand new windows installed and we also took down a wall between the old kitchen and dining room to create a lovely open-plan space. In more recent years the attic has been converted into a gorgeous master bedroom and a large Velux window was installed, not only to add extra light but also to take advantage of the stunning view of the Nene Valley. All the work that has been done has really enhanced both the look and feel of the house as a whole, and it’s now very light and bright and has such a warm and welcoming atmosphere.”

“The house sits comfortably right in the middle of the plot, so the garden, which is another really nice feature, is not at all overlooked, ” continues the owner. “There’s a good-size driveway to the front; the lawn at the back, which is slightly raised, wraps around a sheltered patio, and then to the side of the house i’ve had artificial lawn laid to created another very nice seating area. I have space for sitting out, relaxing and alfresco entertaining, and it’s all totally private and wonderfully peaceful.”

Favourite Room: “The room that I call my ‘snug’ is my favourite part of the house, ” says the owner. “It’s a very tranquil space and it has an open fire that creates such a cosy atmosphere when it’s cold and miserable outside.”

Favourite aspect of the grounds or surrounding area: “I think what i’ve enjoyed most about the location is the fact that at home it’s very peaceful and private, and yet I feel part of a very friendly village community and everything I could possibly want is just a short car journey away, ” says the owner. “In my mind it couldn’t be better.”

Memorable event (if not another favourite room or unique feature): “The open-plan kitchen/diner is another very nice part of the house, ” says the owner. “It connects to both the main living room and the snug, and has French doors that open out onto the patio, so it’s ideal when i’m entertaining because even when i’m cooking i’m not cut off from my guests.”

What they’ll miss most / why they are leaving: “i’ll miss the house, the setting, the neighbours… everything, ” says the owner. “It really has been the most wonderful home and I know i’m going to be very sad to leave.”
