Property Description
This has to be one of Cobham's most attractive houses. Divided into two, but available as a whole, these houses are simply magnificent. An opportunity to acquire a property of such classic proportions and renovated to these standards in such a beautiful setting, is rare indeed.
Although local records show that a house, originally designed as a gentleman's residence within an estate, has been on Fairmile Court for over two hundred years, the property in its present form, was actually constructed in the late 19th Century as inscribed on a cornerstone dated MDCCCLXXIX.
The house took its name from a straight section of the Old Portsmouth Road between Esher and Cobham, which is now the A307. This was considered to be a 'fair mile' on which to try out a horse and carriage and in later times, the trotting horse. It was the only length of road for miles around that was actually straight, hard and level, although its surface was made up of gravel.
In the earlier part of this century the 'fairmile', as the road became known, was a notorious speed trap for the pioneer motorist. It is said to be the place where the famous aa salute originated, not necessarily out of courtesy, but more in order to warn the unwary drivers of a hidden police patrol.
Situated in one of Cobham's most highly desirable residential neighbourhoods, Fairmile Court House is ideally placed to take full advantage of the excellent communication links and the comprehensive range of facilities available within the immediate area.
Central London is approximately 17 miles away via the A3 and the nearest M25 junction (10) is about three miles from the site providing direct access to the National Motorway Network and Heathrow or Gatwick Airports. The nearest station at Stoke d'Abernon has a large car park and frequent trains that reach London Waterloo in approximately 40 minutes. There is a comprehensive selection of both state and private schools in the area including the American Community School, which is within a reasonable walking distance of the site.
Leisure pursuits are well catered for with local clubs covering most sports and social activities. Golf enthusiasts have a number of courses available on which to play and for racegoers, there is a choice Sandown Park, Kempton Park or Epson Racecourses.
