Accommodation
The Old Vicarage is a stone-built period residence dating back to the 1860’s. Commissioned by the Chatsworth Estate, it’s therefore believed that the house is built from the same Derbyshire Stone as Chatsworth House. The grand, handmade, electric iron gates at the front of the property were commissioned by the current owner and provide access to the long sweeping driveway that leads up to the main residence and the substantial stone-built barn built in circa 1681, also known as Amber Barn.
Upon entering the house, you are greeted by the magnificent and spacious reception hall that showcases the spindle balustrade leading up to the first floor.
The four spacious reception rooms comprise of the impressive drawing room that benefits from the dual aspect sash windows that allow natural light to flood the room. The large sitting room also takes advantage of the natural light with its dual aspect large sash windows that highlight the period features including the wide boarded original flooring. The large formal dining room can accommodate dinner parties and provides a sense of grandeur with its superb stone fireplace, log burner and original wood floors.
The heart of the home is the handmade, high-quality kitchen and orangery with its granite worktops, range cooker, integrated appliances and centre island.
Continuing the Travertine tiled flooring, the kitchen leads into the orangery. The orangery has spot lights and a ceiling fan providing a contemporary and modern feel. A range of full length, sealed unit double glazed windows to side and rear with matching French doors provide access to the patio and large wooden decked area which enjoys far reaching views over the surrounding countryside for those that enjoy al fresco dining and bbq’s.
The utility room has a granite preparation surface with ceramic tiled surround, an inset one and a half bowl stainless steel sink unit (mixer tap), under-cupboards and two appliance spaces beneath including plumbing for an automatic washing machine, four-door cupboard over, further matching work surface, tiled surround and appliance spaces beneath. There is also useful walk-in store with fitted shelving.
The downstairs also benefits from a fitted guests’ cloakroom, rear hall/boot room and a large basement that was previously used as both a games room and a cinema room.
The generously proportioned wooden staircase provides a sense of grandeur in addition to access to the first floor and the five double bedrooms of which two have en-suites. The master bedroom benefits from original wide plank exposed polished floor boards, recessed display area, large walk-in wardrobe with hanging rails, shelving and electric light.
The first floor also benefits from a family bathroom that includes a double-ended roll edged free-standing bath on claw and ball feet having a central mixer tap incorporating a hand shower, pedestal wash basin, low suite WC, an original fireplace, a chandelier and separate shower that provides a sense of opulence and tranquillity.

Vendor's Interview
“My immediate thought was that The Old Vicarage was beautiful with so much history, character and grandeur. The huge barn had potential to convert into a holiday let but the idea of a party barn was very appealing too!” says the vendor.
“There’s so much to do in the area and it’s just a short walk or drive to some of our favourite restaurants. The Ashover Agricultural and Horticultural Show is a fun day out, as are the cable cars in Matlock. The Hardwick Estate is great for dog walking with picturesque views and perfect picnic spots. Bakewell is fabulous for afternoon tea and walks along the river where we like to feed the ducks and enjoy an ice cream. We love Hassop Hall for special occasions or ‘date night’, it’s a very grand experience.”
“The house has always taken my breath away and I am so in love with it. It’s like living in the Snow White movie, completely surrounded by nature and animals. Spring and summer are beautiful, whilst autumn is always cosy with tumbling, coloured leaves and log fires burning. It is a dreamy wonderland in winter, especially when the grounds and huge trees are covered in snow.”
“The grounds of the house are picturesque and pretty. We enjoy quad biking in the paddock and woodland and our dogs obviously love the grounds too! The back garden has been the scene of plenty of BBQs and parties, it’s the perfect size and a lot of fun.”
“We spend most of our time in the kitchen and orangery, as it’s bright and is such a good space to cook. I created a home office in the second living room which is modern but retains the original wooden flooring and it’s also an amazing place to chill and watch movies.”
“I love how close we are to everything and living in the Peak District makes your soul happy. It’s a good quality of life and I will miss everything about living here. I will be very emotional to leave this beautiful home, but we are relocating closer to my parents to start a family in the near future.”
“We always host Christmas for the whole family and spend the morning in the grand living room with the log fire burning. I’ve also hosted numerous amazing dinner parties, birthday celebrations and hen parties, it’s the perfect house for entertaining.”
“It’s hard to choose just one favourite room but the bathroom is a beautiful haven for me. I love the roll top bath, the big chandelier hanging overhead, and the gorgeous fireplace filled with candles.”
“I love the lifestyle that comes with the house, it’s so relaxing. Set in private grounds, I feel safe in my own little world and yet i’m not completely secluded. I have friends in London, Nottingham, Sheffield and Chesterfield, so my house is a great location for everyone to meet up, have dinner and stay over.”
