The Area

There is something particularly special about Heath. If you’ve never been we would like to encourage you to visit as it is a beautiful conservation village with many unique Georgian buildings.

There are a variety of local conveniences within a short drive, along with a range of golf courses and country parks. There are also cultural centres such as the Hepworth Museum and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park within easy reach.

Heath is a great place for the regional business community, with easy access to the M1, the M62 and the A1. If commerce takes you to the capital, then Wakefield Westgate station will serve you well.

Key Features

Moor House has evolved from a couple of large cottages with origins dating back over 300 years. They have been combined into one significant property. The refurbishment saw the creation of an impressive hall with a John Carr staircase, the addition of the art gallery and the embellishment of reclaimed Georgian mouldings and fireplaces.

This archetypal English country home was then skilfully extended and elegantly refurbished with a stylish, comfortable and high-quality interior by the current owners. Moor House is Listed Grade II.

We love the look of this home and the interior has an excellent combination of great formal rooms and relaxing spaces for everyday living. It is a spacious home that can easily accommodate a large and happy family but without being overwhelming. Comfortably large and suitably cosy at the same time. The quality within is obvious, there is an easy classical elegance to the place, which we love. It makes a real statement, without trying too hard. This is also a great home for parties, plenty of space to mingle and a sound system to entertain guests.

Moor House sits within the centre of Heath, in a cluster of what we suspect may be the original buildings of the settlement.

Since it’s origin, the village has grown very slightly and been populated with some spectacular Georgian architecture which forms the backdrop and view from Moor House.

There are two driveways, a formal one to the front which leads up a gravel drive to the parking area in front of the garage block, and one to the rear which runs alongside the garages. The garage block used to be a traditional coach house with a stable and this could be re-instated if you prefer four legs to four wheels. If you love a stroll with your hound, there are few places more convenient, simply walk out of the door and throw a ball over the large open greens.

Ground Floor

The front door belies the true age of Moor House. It opens into an impressive hallway with a sturdy oak staircase rising to the first floor beneath a dentilled ceiling. The arched window on the upper landing mirrors archways leading off to each side landing.

There is an under-stair coat cupboard and doors lead to the family and formal living rooms. Go straight ahead towards the cloakroom which has a traditional loo and basin along with a neat laundry cupboard and a tasteful terracotta and mosaic tiled floor.

The inner hall continues into the beautiful orangery which has a door to the family living room and the kitchen. This versatile space has a ceiling atrium along with full height windows and doors looking into the inner courtyard, combining light, views and privacy. The Orangery makes a brilliant reception hallway, a large dining room for Christmas dinner or a great party room to dance into the small hours.

There is an under heated stone flagged floor which runs through the Orangery and into the adjoining dining kitchen, a generous space where the family can relax, cook and dine all together. There is a wide range of cabinets from the Little London Kitchen Company which are finished with Absolut Nero Granite surfaces, the island houses a prep sink along with a mahogany top. This is a true cook’s kitchen, with up to seven ovens, allowing you to create really adventurous meals. The large gas aga is a twin unit, offering the pleasure of a winter aga with the practicality of a seasonal gas fired unit with hobs. The dining area has a cute window seat, a corner cabinet housing the kitchen audio visual kit and a large dresser housing the fridge freezer.

A door leads through to the study, a very pleasant place to run your affairs from. This corner room has shuttered windows to two sides, dentilled cornices and a coal effect gas fire within a marble inset and stone surround. This lovely room could also make a great family snug just off the kitchen, where the kids can play within earshot but out of sight.

The study connects to the family sitting room. This charming room has shutters, some particularly intricate cornices and sconces either side of the coal effect gas fire. Doors lead to the Orangery and the front hall.

Walk across the hall into the formal reception room, a great space which encompasses the original part of Moor House which was extended and embellished to create an impressive space to show art. The combination of a lower height dining area and grand sitting room makes a great space to entertain. This impressive room also lends itself equally well to being a large, casual, everyday space where you can have a combined sitting and media room. The end wall, originally set for large canvases, is the perfect place for a home cinema screen.

First Floor

Back to the central hall, up the great staircase and onto the landings. Turn left, through a substantial archway and onto the principal landing.

At the far end of the hallway you have the master suite. The elegant bedroom is comfortably proportioned with windows to two sides, providing inspirational views over the heath. There is a dressing room and a stylish Travertine lined en suite with a large open shower and a traditional suite.

There are two more double bedrooms off the left-hand side landing. One looks over the heath and the other has rustic ceiling beams. Both are serviced by a smart bathroom, which has a bath within a granite surround, a shower, loo and basin.

On the right-hand side landing you have another impressive bedroom with high ceilings, views over the green, a large arched window and a dressing room. Steps lead up from the landing to another beautiful suite. This large bedroom is perfect for guests, offering bedroom and sitting space with an en suite shower room.

Outbuildings & Grounds

The approach is up a gravelled driveway along the heath and onto the flagged driveway which leads up to the tandem double garage. This has an electrically operated front door and double doors to the side, the former coach house entrance.

A staircase at the back of the garage leads up to a small upper floor space with a kitchenette. This space would make a great kid’s den, possibly a home office or simply great storage space.

Adjoining the garage, you have a stable / store room with gardener’s loo and wash basin. There are other potential uses, which may include a small office or gymnasium.

The gardens of Moor House are a delight and wrap around the house, mainly backing onto the heath. The formal front gardens are beautifully landscaped with an intricate parterre. The formal planting and stone flagging continues along to a sheltered side garden from which there is a gate onto the heath.

The other side garden has an impressive classical summer house which is a lovely place to relax on a summer’s afternoon. The side lawn is a beautiful and peaceful place for kids to play.

Moor House is an excellent place to entertain and the rear courtyard which runs from the Orangery and out to the second vehicular drive is an ideal venue for guests to sit out or dine on the better days and evenings. If you have many cars to house, the rear driveway offers excellent and discreet additional parking.
