This is Cheadle's oldest remaining residential property, the iconic timber framed building hidden away behind a cluster of modern houses on Cuthbert Road, on the north side of Stockport Road. Complete with enormous ingle-nook fireplaces, carved staircase and heavy oak front door, this Grade 2* listed home was built when Cheadle mainly consisted of woods and farmland and when there was probably no more than a few dozen families who actually lived in the village.

The exact origins of the hall remain a mystery to even the most thorough of local historians, the inscriptions on the oak beam above the original front door and on a flagstone now in the garden reveal the dates 1666 and 1667, which could well be when the building was constructed, although some believe some form of house could have been built on the land up to 100 years earlier and then expanded afterwards, this is a fascinating building, steeped in history. Inside, it probably remains little changed to how it was centuries ago, with four main reception rooms downstairs and five bedrooms upstairs, walk in pantry, a number of utility rooms and a cloakroom. The property amazingly retains its very rare Victorian central heating system. However there is a modern kitchen with view to the garden and a modern bathroom upstairs.
Throughout, there is an abundance of dark oak timber frames, floors, white walls, low ceilings and original leaded windows, as well as solid oak internal doors with their own elaborate strap hinges. The single staircase is made from solid oak, and these days, a banister has been added, although it is no more than a modern ornamental spear.

The garden at the back of the house is filled with an abundance of trees, shrubs and flowers including an ancient Monkey Puzzle tree, an orchard, attractive lawned gardens to the front and rear of the house, dove-coat and pond. There is approximately 0.25 acres of land behind beautiful wrought iron gates and private drive.
One item which is untouched from the day the hall was built is the original solid oak front door (now at the back of the house) and there are some stories it may have predated the hall itself by at least 100 years, being removed from another building when Moseley Old Hall was constructed. The large original door knocker also still exists and also remains in outstanding condition for its age.

There are stories that Bonnie Prince Charlie visited the hall when he passed through Cheadle during the Jacobite uprising of 1745, although there is nothing to confirm this in the building now. Another story states that a priest hole or hidden tunnel was discovered behind one of the fireplaces.
