Property Description
Located on an elevated plot just a few hundred yards from the church is this fabulous family home. With parts dating back to the 15th century, the property has been extended and improved to offer a tasteful blend of traditional features and modern contemporary finishes. The gardens are beautifully presented, and largely south facing with a selection of fruit trees as well as an outdoor swimming pool. Beyond the double garage is a large timber workshop and various other outbuildings.
The house itself has a very modern dine-in-kitchen, conservatory and an additional three reception rooms. On the first floor are 5 bedrooms and a family bathroom.
Southoe is a very popular village which offers easy access to the A1 and also to St Neots for the high speed rail access to London.
“We had always lived in the country and we were looking for somewhere to bring up our family “in the country”. We’ve lived here for 44 years and the house, garden and location have been just great for us, ” say the current owners.
“Southoe is a small, friendly and active village. Activities are centred around the Village Hall and the Church which is around 900 years old. We’ve both enjoyed being part of the community and been involved with things like quiz nights and arranging guest speakers.”
“We’ve made a number of enhancements during our time here, including the addition of an extension which included a new master bedroom with en suite, a family bathroom and a large kitchen. We tend to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, it’s light and bright. When the family is with us, we all sit for meals around the kitchen table, now it’s with the grandchildren too. My wife enjoys cooking and she loves the walk-in larder that we added during the recent refurbishment. Evenings are often spent in the living room where we can relax and watch TV with the coal-effect lpg stove in the inglenook.”
“We have always been keen on the garden and like to spend time outside. The plum and apple trees provide a good harvest. We enjoy playing croquet on the front lawn and football with our grandchildren on the rear lawn. Our children were in their late teens when we built the swimming pool and it’s been a huge part in our life here, enjoyed by us all and now by our grandchildren. We tend to live by the pool during the summer months as it’s a lovely sun trap and the trees are a natural windbreak, but we also swim in the winter months, as we can heat the pool and install a winter enclosure.”
