Huson Farm
Huson Farm is a superb family house steeped in history and most unusually situated in a wonderfully secluded location down an unmade lane, yet very close to the thriving town centre and just 500 metres or so from Waitrose.

The present building was dated to 1594 by dendrochronology, but the current house had a predecessor and the first recorded written use of the name Huson for the same site is found in a charter of 863 when Ethelbert, King of the West Saxons and Kent, sold it to Prince Ethelred. Huson was subsequently owned by the Church and, after the Dissolution of the Monasteries, it was described as Hoseney Manor and sold to Richard Cromwell, nephew and close associate of Thomas Cromwell. There are believed to be some remnants of this earlier house under the floor of the east facing reception room.

The house was extensively remodelled in the Arts and Crafts era, and again improved by the current owners to create a most pleasing family home. Many features from that time remain, including oak floors, window and door details, and a most appealing series of rooms, the two principal rooms on each floor having large fire places. The property extends to some 3,400 sq ft, arranged over three floors with 7 bedrooms in all and reception rooms of generous proportions.

A concrete pad has been installed for the construction of a garage.

Huson Farn is situated in the well regarded town of Tenterden, which has a great variety of independent shops as well as Waitrose and Tesco. There are well regarded schools in the area, including the Homewood School.

Communications in the area are good and include a mainline station at Headcorn, together with the market town of Ashford, offering a comprehensive range of facilities as well as access to the M20 and wider motorway network. There are excellent rail connections to London and also Europe via the Channel Tunnel.

Outside there is large formal garden leading to the pond, with extensive lawns and shrubs and trees. The property as a whole is very private, especially considering its convenient location. At the foot of the garden is a weather boarded barn with a tile hung roof.

Approached off the lane, a gravelled parking and turning area sits beside the house, which provides access to the main door and the garden. A formal garden lies to the west of the house, with the main lawns to the east and south. These contain a children’s playground and a large pond, as well as mature specimen and fruit trees, and flower and shrub borders.
