The vendor says: “The church was built in 1837 in the Gothic style. It has been described as a model church conversion by the Advisory Board for Redundant Churches. The architect raised the floor by four steps, so all the windows are at a normal height instead of being at head height. The church is not a completely modern interior in an old shell but has been sympathetically restored so that all the alterations blend in and architectural salvage from other buildings have been used. The main living room is incredibly dramatic, a stunning living space with a magical light filtered through the sensational original stained glass windows, and we completely fell in love with it when we first walked in. It is split into four areas by six decorated, cast iron columns and the tall Gothic moulded stone chancel arch. We have put in curtains over the windows which have softened the space and made it warmer and homelier. It is a unique, incredible space.”
“On the ground floor there is an entrance hall with a Gothic stone screen carved in limestone and two carved limestone angels. There is a large kitchen/breakfast room with marble tops and hand painted units, a dresser and art nouveau fireplace with ornamental tiled hearth. There is a useful utility room and cloakroom and cellar running along the length of the church. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, one twin single room and two bathrooms, one with a shower and one with a cast iron bath.”
“Earlier this year we converted the garage into a two bedroom house with a shower room, kitchen and a conservatory. The conservatory is gorgeous and a lovely place to sit. We used the same builder who did the original church conversion and he spent five years on the old church, so he really understands the space. It has been a great success. There is a garden there and plenty of parking. It is a great place for parties, there is a bbq area and lovely views over the fields. The little house also has its own services and own drive.”
