About Ferrygate Meadow
Quality of life is about the details of everyday living. From the little things, like knowing the nearest place to pick up a pint of milk, to more important matters like finding the right school or having a health centre nearby, you need to know that the community you’re moving to will support you and your family, as well as being a pleasant place to live. So here’s some useful information about the area around Ferrygate Meadow.
North Berwick railway station, three quarters of a mile from the development, offers trains to Edinburgh Waverley approximately once an hour, with extra services during morning and evening commuter periods. The journey takes just over half an hour. There is also an hourly bus service into Edinburgh that passes adjacent to the development and takes around 65 minutes. The centre of Edinburgh is around 40 minutes away by car.
The town is a popular destination for visitors who come to visit the beautiful harbour and the famous seabird centre, explore the long sandy beaches and sheltered boating pond, or play golf at the Glen or the North Berwick course, one of the oldest in the world. The harbour is the starting point for wildlife safaris and a seasonal ferry to Anstruther, as well as the home of the East Lothian Yacht Club, which holds prestigious international competitions. The many excellent local walks range from riverside strolls through The Glen or climbing Berwick Law to the long distance challenges of the John Muir Way.
Dirleton Castle and Tantallon Castle, the town is just five miles from the Museum of Flight at East Fortune, which hosts Scotland’s annual air show. It is also the home of the Fringe by the Sea, a weeklong offshoot of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and the East Lothian Tennis Open, played just across the road from the beautiful Lodge Grounds park with its excellent children’s playgrounds.
There is a small convenience store at the service station just yards from the development. The town has a charming, traditional High Street where galleries, coffee shops and restaurants are interspersed with convenience stores, local food and drink shops, pharmacies, a post office, newsagents and ironmongers. There is a large Co-op in the town centre, and branches of Aldi and Tesco on the eastern edge of the town. Glass bottles and metal cans can be recycled at bins in the car park at the station.
The town’s nursery and primary schools have an excellent reputation, and North Berwick High School was recently identified by Tatler magazine as one of the top state schools in the UK. North Berwick Health Centre offers a choice of GPs with full nursing support, and there are two dental surgeries in the town, the nearest one just ten minutes walk from the development.
