Property Description
Surrounded by the beautiful unspoilt countryside of the South Downs National Park, with far reaching views over neighbouring woods and farmland. An impressive conversion of a brick and flint period barn and stables of some 3,500 sq ft creating a versatile family home with great character set in mature gardens of about 0.8 acre.
This highly versatile barn conversion provides an extensive family home surrounded by some of the best countryside in the county. A spacious reception hall with cloakroom leads to the focal point of the house which is a beautifully proportioned vaulted sitting/dining room with full height windows having far reaching views over the valley. A large open fireplace with Jetmaster grate has a handsome exposed brick chimney breast reaching to the ceiling and one of the oak ceiling beams has been carved by the original builder of the barn with the date 1851. From here double doors lead to a comfortable family room/snug of some 19 ft in length and beyond this is the vaulted kitchen/breakfast room with a four oven oil fired Aga. For practical purposes a generous utility/boot room lies alongside and this gives access to the 3 bay open fronted car barn which it is felt provides potential for conversion into further living space, subject to the necessary consents. An inner hall leading from the main sitting room provides access to the ground floor bedroom wing with 2 double bedrooms and a bathroom.
On the first floor a turned staircase leads to a dramatic galleried landing looking down over the sitting/dining room with handsome exposed beams and views through the full length windows to the countryside beyond. A generous principal bedroom has its own bathroom with 2 further bedrooms served by an adjacent well-appointed shower room.
Outside
A stone shingled driveway approaches the property from the north-east and provides ample casual parking surrounded by attractive borders planted with shrubs and spring bulbs. The 3 bay car barn is some 30 ft in length and provided with lighting and power. Former stables provide loose boxes or useful storage. The barn lies very much in the center of its own plot surrounded by mature gardens of about 0.8 acre. Boundaries are enclosed by post and rail fencing with an attractive copse of trees to the south. To the west further lawned gardens have far reaching rural views with a west facing terrace approached by way of doors from the sitting/dining room.
Location
Wildham Barn lies just to the north east of Stoughton which is one of the prettiest Downland Villages situated at the very heart of the South Downs National Park. Lying to the north west of Chichester and still within easy reach of Havant, Rowlands Castle and Petersfield, providing good rail links to London Victoria or Waterloo via either Havant or Petersfield stations.
The village itself has a parish church, popular pub and a village shop/cafe is available in nearby Compton. The surrounding area also has a variety of farmshops with a butcher located in nearby Adsdean and farmshop in Funtington. More comprehensive facilities are available in Chichester which provides a good range of shops and restaurants arranged partly within a pedestrianised centre.
Sporting and recreational activities in the area are numerous. The surrounding South Downs countryside provides many opportunities for walking, riding and mountain biking. To the south the waters of The Solent and Chichester Harbour are very popular with sailors and provides some of the best sailing facilities within convenient travelling distance of London. The beaches along the south coast and in particular The Witterings attract bathers, windsurfers and those interested in kite surfing and land boarding. Goodwood is already internationally known for its famous race course but also plays host to the annual Festival of Speed and The Revival at its historic motor circuit. There are a number of golf courses, the closest being located at Rowlands Castle. Road communications are good with the Hindhead Tunnel significantly improving travelling times to London via the A3.
