There are stunning views across the valley and the visitor will be moved by the absolute silence, with no road noise or any other noise other than the wind or birdsong. Access from the North and South by way of motorway as can be seen from the location plan. The village of Leadhills is nearby and there is an opportunity to pan for gold in local streams providing you apply for a day permit. There are opportunities to fish and in the Daer reservoir subject to obtaining the necessary permission and permit.

The trees are planted fairly close together to prevent undergrowth such as brambles taking over the site. There is now a hutting policy in Scotland where temporary structures can be constructed in forests, up to 30 m².
