Property Description

The Hall A timber-framed and plastered house built in the second half of the 16th century, adjacent to the church in the heart of Bocking. Added to in the 17th century and altered in the 18th century. There are two floors and attics. The upper floor is jet tied at the south end of the east front. Three gables of varying sizes project on the east front and two are jet tied on the first floor. A wing extends east at the north end. There is an eight window range overall, (arranged 3:3:2), with double hung sashes with glazing bars, in flush cased frames. The center gable has a Venetian window. Two gabled wings extend west at the rear, one has a jet tied upper floor and a 17th century square chimney stack with two tiled offsets and diagonal shafts. The entrance to the front vestibule has an original four-centred doorhead and a battened and nailed door, with a tiled roof over. The interior has a number of original features including, a stunning 16th century oak staircase thought to be one of only two in the county, 17th century paneling, fireplace and exposed ceiling beams. The current owners have in recent times added additional accommodation, through a traditionally built heritage style timber framed extension to the south side of the Hall; a high end finish includes vaulted ceiling with exposed oak beams, underfloor heating and granite work tops. The property has extensive grounds, comprising of two large paddocks to the east that flank the property's driveway. Again to the east directly in front of the property is the Halls parking area where the current owners have built a weather boarded building that has an oversized enclosed single garage and adjacent cart lodge, above which is a generous home office or gymnasium. There is a part walled garden immediately in front of the building with ornamental lawns and shingle paths that lead to the entrance. To the south of the property is the main garden, this is mainly laid to lawn and runs from the Hall to the rear wall of Bocking Church. To the North is the driveway that gives access to Bocking Cottage, the self contained property which is joined to the West side of the Hall. The current owners have in recent years replaced the property's sole plate to the front elevation, maintaining the integrity of the original building and ensuring this stunning Hall house remains in place for generations to come.
