Property Description

A unique opportunity. An important landmark attached Grade Two Listed property, part of which dates from the 16th century with a major portion being 18th century, having most appealing elevations in painted brick to the front with some tile hanging under a peg tiled roof to the rear. The Old Red House has been divided over the last twenty years so as to provide a very popular and successful licensed ninety seater Portugese Restaurant (now closed) with living accommodation above and an adjoining cottage to the rear having its own access off Church Street. The whole is now considered to be in need of improvement and updating but provides tremendous potential and a unique opportunity for continued use as at present or total conversion to a single dwelling or division into several units subject to planning. Many original features are in evidence internally including inglenook fireplaces, exposed beams, panelling and ornate main staircase. Externally there is a walled garden which can be approached through the delightful Vine Room. The whole is a very interesting property and therefore worthy of an early inspection.

Historical note

The Old Red House appears to have been occupied during the 16th to 18th centuries by wealthy merchants when it was one dwelling, one of whom Ruben Colgate is thought to have a connection with the later toothpaste firm. More recently it has been an antiques shop and French restaurant before being purchased by the current owners.
