The texture adds warmth and charm to this welcoming communal space.

The family bathroom is bigger than many we’ve come across, and we think the double sink is a brilliant idea; sure to reduce family squabbles.

But, for us, it’s the garden that trumps. The current owners have made the most of its size through smart zoning: The decked area is ideal for summer entertaining, plus there’s plenty of lawn space for the littl'uns to run around; and the icing on the cake, a studio space configured to practise yoga, which overlooks the garden. While it could easily be used for something else, we love the zen vibe it currently imbues.

I will always remember house hunting; we had no idea what area we wanted to live in, and I recall driving down Summerlee Avenue in May – the cherry blossoms and white houses with the park at the end of the street seemed to us like a fairytale.

We’ve loved the proximity to the park – two steps to the playground with toddlers, easy enough to run back home for an ice lolly mid-picnic. A five-minute stroll to Highgate Woods, two-minute walk to the tube, and the wonderful community of East Finchley cafes and shops at the weekend. We’ve stayed put for as long as we have because we just can’t beat the location and the street.

Summerlee Avenue is a fantastic area for state schools, and (we believe) in catchment for Holy Trinity C of E Primary School, Archer Academy, Tetherdown Primary School and Fortismere School. All are either Ofsted-rated 'good' or 'outstanding' and many are oversubscribed.

The current owners have updated windows throughout (except the loft), added walnut engineered flooring to the ground floor, and lots of built-in storage throughout, ticking a few jobs off the checklist. Some people may want to add their own touch, but the bare bones (and more) are all here.
