Property Description
We bought the house back in 2001 and it was without doubt the forest setting that drew us to it. We were moving from Hackney and wanted to find a much larger house in a place where we could enjoy an element of countryside living and somewhere where I could keep and ride my horse. However, we still needed the convenience of being able to get back into the city centre on a daily basis with relative ease, and this house fitted the bill perfectly. I keep my horse just five minutes down the road – although there is a livery yard almost opposite the property – and the forest is a sensational place to go riding, cycling or walking. It's very peaceful here and incredibly picturesque, and yet we can be in Loughton in around five minutes or hop on a train at nearby Chingford and be in the centre of town in just under half an hour. It's absolutely ideal.
The house was only three years old when we came here, so it was in excellent condition, however we wanted to improve the overall feeling of light and space, and we also wanted to make the most of the fact that we're right next to the forest.
This has been a very happy home for the past eighteen years and we're so proud of the changes we've made to the house, which we feel have transformed it into a very practical but at the same time very stylish family home. We'll be sad to leave, but the thing that I think we'll miss the most is being so close to the forest.
What the Owner says:
This lovely home, which forms part of a private gated development of just three houses, enjoys an enviable location directly adjacent to Epping Forest – just under six thousand acres of ancient woodland that stretches between Epping to the north and Forest Gate in Greater London to the south.
The property was built towards the end of the 1990s, but in the past few years it has been very stylishly remodelled and refurbished by the current owners. They enlisted the help of a fabulous architect who brilliantly realised their vision and created a very open and free-flowing layout in the main living area and maximised the space in the rest of the house. The interior is now very modern in design, with top-of-the-range fixtures and fittings, stylish materials such as the pale wooden floorboards and every room has been painted white, which really enhances the feeling of light. One of outstanding features has to be the gorgeous almost floor-to-ceiling window in the dining area, which when opened up to the Juliette balcony makes you feel as if you're right in the thick of the forest.
The lovely big open-plan kitchen, dining and living areas have French doors that open out onto the garden, so when the sun is shining one can extend the living space outside. Beyond the doors is a decked terrace, which is a nice place to BBQ or to just sit and soak in the surroundings, and beyond that the garden is mainly laid to lawn. It's a very peaceful spot and very private, making it ideal for
